Old Girls
Donations and Bequests

The Committee of the Guild of St. Mary's Old Girls is committed to the ongoing raising of funds needed to finance the ever-increasing costs incurred by the Guild and to enable us to contribute meaningfully to the development of the school, as a gesture of appreciation of the many happy years spent there. Over the years, this has become more and more difficult and it is to this end that we ask for donations no matter how small. In addition, we respectfully ask all Old Girls to consider making a bequest when drawing up a will. Your consideration of these matters is greatly appreciated.

The Old Girls are important to the school and closer ties need to be fostered to bring past girls back into the greater St Mary's family. In order for this to be achieved, the following policies have been adopted.

Policies
Decisions Reached by the Board Regarding The Guild of St Mary’s Old Girls
  1. Admission
Relatives of Old Girls are given preference equal to that given to siblings. (This policy has been in operation in recent years.) However, it is requested that Old Girls note that an independent psychologist will assess applicants who score poorly in the entrance test to ensure that every opportunity is afforded them to be admitted. It is the school's sincere wish that all daughters of past girls be admitted if they are capable of coping academically. It is a reasonable assumption that those who would not cope would only end up being unhappy. A recent market survey showed that the academic standard at St Mary's was the most important factor in our current parents' choice of school. This is an important marketing tool in a market that has shrunk in recent years.
  2. Chapel
The Board has agreed that all Old Girls who request to be married in the school chapel will be permitted to do so on condition that it is a Christian marriage and that they have marriage counselling beforehand. A Christian minister of their choice may marry them.
  3. Communication
The school budget will, in future, include a budget for communication with the Old Girls. The Guild is requested to liaise with the Marketing Department in this regard.
  4. Old Girls' Day
It is a good idea to hold Old Girls' Day on a school Saturday so that there can be interaction between present and past girls. A Saturday that is suitable to both the school and Old Girls should be diarised annually when the school calendar is being drawn up. The Guild and Head should liaise in this regard.
